Helping people learn English

How it works

BURC English Learning Hub

Introduction

BURC English Learning Hub was created to build on the long-standing success of the Belfast Unemployed Resource Centre (BURC), in supporting migrant communities through English language education. As a social enterprise, BURC English Learning Hub delivers high-quality, accessible ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) classes – both online and face-to-face – for migrants, refugees, and asylum seekers in Northern Ireland and beyond.

Rooted in over 40 years of experience, our mission is to break down language barriers, open up opportunities, and help people thrive in their new communities. We also develop innovative digital tools, including language and orientation apps, to further support learners at all levels.

About the programme

Our ESOL programme is designed to support learners at every stage of their English language journey, with a particular focus on those who are new to English. In addition to our online and in-person classes, we are developing a suite of digital tools to make learning more accessible, flexible, and engaging.

This includes downloadable materials specifically created for absolute beginners, as well as an innovative language learning app.

The app will feature:

  • Introductions in multiple languages
  • Interactive lessons focused on grammar, vocabulary, and communication skills
  • Practice exercises and progress tracking
  • A wide range of additional resources

Whether you’re learning English for work, study, or everyday life, our programme aims to meet you where you are and help you build confidence step by step.
